Thanks for signing up. I’m grateful we’ll have this chance to keep in contact, separate from the chaos of the world and the clutter of corporate social media.
Starting now, you’ll get e-mail newsletters from me on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, with a few breaks throughout the year. (Full schedule.)
While you wait for your first newsletter
Here’s something you can use right away:
Premortem: before starting a new project, learn why it will end in failure
A simple method for uncovering big, ‘undiscussable’ risks to a project.

Make sure you actually get the e-mails
- If you use Gmail: Check your ‘Promotions’ tab—that’s probably where my welcome e-mail landed. Drag it to Primary and say ‘yes’ when prompted if you want to see future messages there too.
- For other e-mail: Look for the welcome e-mail (subject line “Welcome to Improve Something Today”) and move it to your primary inbox, or add the address to your contacts.

Three things worth checking out:
- Quote barn—collected passages and quotations I keep returning to.
- Vanishing fish, boiling frogs & the dry bed of the sea— ‘shifting baseline syndrome’ in the world and in the workplace. “We have to remember this, so we can give an account of what happened.”
- Downloads—free templates and goodies for doing a waste walk, designing training, etc.

I’d love to know
What made you decide to sign up for the newsletter? You can reach me anytime at brian@joechip.net or by replying to the newsletters I send. See you again a little further down the road.
